Bioclimatic pergolas in London

We come out from Faversham on the A2 and M2, which puts the south-east boroughs within an easy run. Surveys further west and north are batched into the same trip, so there is sometimes a few days' wait for a slot.

A motorised louvred roof earns its keep fastest in London, where the garden is often the only outdoor space you have and every usable evening counts. Sensors close the roof while you're stuck on the train; the patio is dry when you get home.

A bioclimatic pergola changes with the weather instead of betting on it: motorised aluminium louvres open for sun, angle for shade and seal closed against rain, draining through gutters concealed in the posts. Weather sensors close the roof on their own when rain starts, and lighting and heating build into the frame rather than clamping on afterwards.

The London picture

Planning: London has more conservation areas per square mile than anywhere else we work, and a number of boroughs run Article 4 directions that remove permitted development rights altogether. We check the borough's position before quoting rather than after, because in London it is the single thing most likely to change the answer.

★★★★★Sadie GoodwinPergola with lighting and heating
Highly recommend Eden Grove. I purchased a Pergola and it's perfect, creating a beautiful dining space to sit outside longer into the evening. The lights and heater make it extra special. From choosing a pergola to installation Eden made the whole process easy.
★★★★★Ben LewisOrdered and installed inside a week
Simple ordering process, delivery and installed within the week, very easy to recommend.

The detail

The ranges we fit
Is a bioclimatic pergola waterproof?

Yes. Closed louvres interlock into a sealed surface and rain drains through gutters concealed in the frame and posts. This is the mechanism where cheap systems show themselves first, which is why the guarantee matters more than the styling.

How every pergola roof type handles UK rain

How long does installation take?

Most single-bay pergolas are installed from one day once the base is ready. Glass sides and electrics extend that. Morvelle lead times typically run 3 to 6 weeks from order.

Do I need planning permission?

Usually not. Most pergolas fall under permitted development, broadly 2.5m high within 2m of a boundary and 3m otherwise. Conservation areas and listed buildings tighten the rules; we flag any planning question at the free site survey.
